Frequently Asked Questions
How does the IDbCG differ from other game sites?
First, we are dedicated to having accurate information on games. We are amazed at the inaccuracies we see on other game sites. The fact that we see the same inaccuracies on several game sites indicates that many of them appear to copy each others' inaccuracies.
Second, we are dedicated to being inclusive. Most other game sites focus only on games released by game companies. We include games by companies and individuals.
Third, we are not a "fan site" for games. We don't promote games - we document them.
Fourth, we are dedicated to providing a quality experience. You won't find pornographic or otherwise inappropriate advertisements, as you do on some other game sites. The site is safe for people of all ages.
Fifth, we provide information both for game players and for game developers.
Why don't I see my favorite game on the site?
There are several possible reasons, including
1. We may simply have not gotten around to adding your game yet. Check back frequently as we add dozens of games each week. If you want to speed the process up, submit a game to us.
2. The game may not have been released yet. We rarely include games that have not been released, at least in demo form, to the market yet.
3. There are some games that we do not include, for practical reasons. These include games only playable through a web site, unless they are persistent worlds. And we don't include play-by-email games.
4. We only include games that were released to the general public. So if a game demo
was sent to reviewers but then not released because the company went out of business, you will not find it on this site.
Why is the game information incomplete on some games?
We only include information that we are convinced is accurate. Our researchers follow strict rules
to ensure that our information is correct. If we cannot verify a piece of information, we will not
include that information with the game. It is easier to add verifiable information later than to
correct inaccurate information. Besides, what good is having a lot of information if one cannot
trust that it is correct?
I found an error on your site
We are only human, and despite our high standards, an occasional error may creep in. These
are almost always due to data-entry errors rather than due to faulty research. And these
errors are almost always corrected within a week due to our Quality Control procedures.
If you find an error on one of our tens-of-thousands of pages, please let us know. Our
researchers will look into all reports and correct errors if we can independantly verify
the correction.
Why don't you include links to cracks?
There may be valid reasons to crack some software, however we don't want to aid those doing
so for illegal purposes.
Why do I have to be registered to rate or leave comments on games?
With the vast numbers of immature idiots posting garbage on every site they can find, we
require registration to limit this happening on the IDbCG. This maintains the overall
quality of the site. It also allows us to more accurately provide ratings. Registration is quick and free, so it shouldn't be a barrier to
honest people.
Why are the game and character forum lists unsorted? It makes it hard to find a game.
The game and character forum items are created in the order that people traverse the links from the games or characters
to the forums. Since this process is essentially random, so are the order of the items in the forum.
However, this is not a problem since it is expected that you will go to a forum from the corresponding
game or character page, which are sorted. Further, you can search the forum for the name
of interest.
